OUR STORY

Producers Miika J. Norvanto and Timo Puustinen and their companies Frozen Flame Pictures and Black Lion Pictures have been building a distinctive film production model in Kainuu since 1999

In recent years, Kajawood Studios has used several film and TV series productions to develop a bubble studio destination concept. The ‘Kajawood – Finnish Hollywood’ was launched in 2018, and the Finnish Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment (ELY Centre) funded it initially. It set out to create the conditions for studio-like and systematic filmmaking in the area.

Kajawood Studios building process was announced in October 2020 when the company acquired the lands to the Studio. Building process started in October 2021. Kajawood Studios was announced internationally in Cannes Film Festival, in May 2022.

The signed agreements have ensured the introduction of several international film productions into the area after the completion of the studios. With these agreements, the region will have large international film and TV series productions and international experts for years to come, guaranteeing the profitability of investments in the area well into the future.
